Re: how to map a mini-me?
Great topic Joris and 007! You definitely should write a book (or at least a nice how-to guide on this site), you've spread more than enough information now to make sure you are going to car-heaven  car heaven... mmm... I wonder what it will look like. :P it's been a long time and I've bee...

Re: D13Y8
go through all the links on this page. they contain all the information you need. http://support.moates.net/tag/demon/ a "chipped" ECU is one where some additional components and a memory chip containing modified maps, etc. are added. the Moates Demon is an emulator which eliminates the ne...

Re: D13Y8
Owen, I use NepTune running on a Demon emulator attached to a chipped OBD1 ECU. tuning on your own is not hard at all as long as you don't try to get too greedy and push things without understanding what you are doing. to be able to swap between your D14 and an OBD1 ECU, you need to build a conversi...

Re: P2P ECU
you mean 15% *rich*, right? 10% lean at WOT will kill your engine faster than you think and you will end up spending more money rebuilding it than you saved in the first place. chipping an ECU is not very difficult. you can find plenty of tutorials all over the internet. you will need an OBD1 ECU, a...

Re: P2P ECU
if the P2P needs a knock sensor, then you will have to wire one in. it is quite simple to do. there is already a threaded hole behind the block for it. you need to get a compatible sensor with a pigtail and then run the wire to the appropriate ECU pin. coming to the running part, you will be fine ru...

Re: P2P ECU
if you run the entire Y8 top half with the Y8 ECU, it should be able to handle the decreased displacement. *however*, for best results, you will need to alter the ECU maps and for that you will need an OBD1 ECU. it is just a little conversion harness that plugs straight into the existing OBD2 harnes...

Re: Emmision troubles
it is a Type R engine. it would be a surprise if it *didn't* make power.

Re: Emmision troubles
a B16B should *never* be thrown away! I am sure she will be perfect after a rebuild. glazed rings / cylinder walls are never good news. did you also happen to check compression before you opened the engine up Joris? I think that in addition to consuming oil and lowering your effective octane rating ...

Re: Hybrid gearboxes. In search of the perfect gear ratios.
I've never done it, so I can't say for sure. in theory it isn't hard at all. just a little tricky. change 1, 2 and reverse as a set, then 3rd gear, and retain 4th, 5th and the FD.

Re: Hybrid gearboxes. In search of the perfect gear ratios.
yes Betek. it is #1. the shafts are interchangeable but to avoid any issues later like broken / worn teeth, etc., you will want to change both the main shaft and the corresponding cog on the countershaft for 1st, 2nd and reverse gears. 3, 4 and 5 can be swapped without any such restrictions.
