Camber Kits

Post by saxophonias »

When it comes to serious suspension tuning, then a camber kit is very important. Apart for giving camber the desiring value according to each different track set up, these kits are somehow a necessity more or less. More specifically double wishbones suspension have the tendency to increase camber rates when lowering the car. So the more you lower the car the more you increase static camber. If you are within the factory limits then it's ok. The problem begins when you exceed them. So this when camber kit come into play.
Fortunately there are numerous kits for our civics. Still we have to be careful, as there are many complaints, especially for the first gen. kits that they tend to lose their camber angles. And this could be a problem.
Let's have a look

This is from Skunk2 site

Skunk 2 has 3 series available
Tuner Series
Image
For the budget minded enthusiast we offer the Tuner Series; which is the same classic design that we have been offering to enthusiasts for over a decade. Each arm includes our standard one-piece forged ball joint, and uses standard rubber bushings. The Tuner series also includes our patent pending “square” washer plate for improved clamping performance and durability.
Pro Series

Pro-Series ball joint allows for quick and easy bottom up camber adjustment. This is especially useful on lowered vehicles with short stroke shock absorbers.
By using the Pro-Series balljoint, the Pro and Pro-Plus camber kits have a lower profile that provides 5mm more clearance between the top of the camber kit and bottom of the strut tower. The Pro-Series ball joint also features cadmium plating for additional corrosion resistance and a trick racing look.
This is a nice review

Then there is the Buddy Club P1 kit

BC gives more clearance

It is reinforced in this sensitive for camber distortion area.

The BLOX kit

BLOX Racing adjustable front camber kits are designed to replace the vehicle's factory upper control arms. It allows the user to adjust and fine tune the front suspension's camber settings for optimum performance.

The camber kit features sliding ball joints for quick and easy adjustments and vulcanized rubber bushings. Each kit is then powder-coated for durability.

Adjustment range: +/- 4 degrees.
Megan Racing Kit

As you can see it is a totally different structure. It is way to reinforced where the ball joint lies and lightweight all the way around. It gives plenty of clearance too.
Megan Racing Inc. has developed reinforced and adjustable control arms to accommodate the needs of the aggressive and performance oriented tuner. Being constructed of a Lightweight Steel-Alloy which is able to withstand the stresses of extreme competition, these arms are powdercoated with a 3-Stage process to ensure durability and protection against the elements.
- Constructed of Steel Alloy for Lightweight yet Durable performance.
- Hard Rubber bushings for a more direct feel and driving experience.
- Easy to access turnbuckle-style adjustment.
- Can be adjusted without removing from the vehicle.
- Eliminates Premature Tire Wear while improving handling and stability.

SPS performance parts have drawn my attention for their quality products and especially for their camber-caster kits.
Have a look.

This is their aluminum type upper control arm
And this is the other steel option

They bear a different design than the others, avoiding the allen type bolts-screws which are mainly to blame for loosing camber settings. This is a solid construction which lets you tune the caster angles as well. It's a bit pricey, but i think it is worth!
This OE style control arm has a unique screw-type adjustment to easily and accurately change camber and caster while viewing live readings from the alignment machine. For stock height or lowered vehicles.
Comes completely assembled including ball joint, sliding plate, adjustment mechanism, and quiet, factory style, rubber bushings.

Front Adjustment range: Camber -.50 degree to +3.50 degree Caster -1.00 degree to +2.00 degree
Installation time: .7 hr/side
Required: 1 per wheel
Applications
Honda: 1996 - 00 Civic

And the alum type
High-performance, forged upper control arms for 92 - 00 Civics, 94 - 01 Integras and 95 - 99 Eclipses, Galants, Talons and Avengers are exactly what tuners and racers need in adjustable upper control arms.
Constructed of aerospace aluminum alloy these arms are torsionally stiffer than the OE control arm and are anodized for improved appearance and corrosion resistance.
One point adjustment for both camber and caster, with the caster adjustment featuring a "positive lock" mechanism designed for high load acceleration and braking.
With applications for racing, show and street tuners, these arms are the aftermarket's choice when choosing a high end, light weight replacement arm to correct alignment angles and to save weight. Packaged in pairs.

Front Adjustment range: Camber -2.50 degree to +3.50 degree Caster -1.25 degree to +1.25 degree
Installation time: .6 hr/side
Required: 1 kit per axle
Applications
72150
Honda: 1996 - 00 Civic
72160
Acura: 1994 - 01 Integra
Honda: 1992 - 95 Civic
72170
Dodge: 1995 - 00 Avenger
Eagle: 1995 - 98 Talon
Mitsubishi: 1994 - 99 Eclipse, 1994 - 98 Galant

Do you track it often? What are your camber angles?
