Specifications of stock ej9 braking system and wheels

Post by saxophonias »

Some important information about ej9 braking.
Minimum front disc thickness (ventilated)------>19mm
solid------------>15mm
rear-------------------------------->8mm
Handbrake Travel----------------------------->6-9 notches
Maximum Drum Diameter----------------------->181mm
Brake Fluid------------------------------------>DOT 3
There are 2 different braking systems. The first models equipped with 13icnh wheels had the small discs 240mm and the next 98-00 the 262mm discs.

Stock ej9s came with 2 set of stock wheels available, that is 13 anf 14inch (98-00 models). The sad thing is that both sets are very narrow. 13x5j 14x5j
This is very restricting sadly. Stock 14inch wheel weighs almost 7.5kg which is very much.

Guys help please. There is a confusion on the brake pads issue. The ej9 1998 models with the 262mm discs, share the same brake pads with ek3/ek4 models? I know these models also have 262discs, but do they share the same caliper? If yes do i have to buy the pads from civic EX or Si, or they are the same?

A shoot, I always end up returning my pads at least once... ordered VTi pads once but the garage said it didn't fit. I know there are 3 calliper and pad types for 6th gen Civic... next time I am gonna change 'em myself and I'll pay more attention.

Anyway yes 262 calliper is different from 240, but also different from EK4... EK3 I don't know.

Look what i've found.
http://bremboaftermarket.com/En/Car_Dis ... Front=True

So the MB series have 259mm discs but they are actually thicker, which is good for not bending, which is a typical problem for EK civics.

So there are 3 types for d14
240mm------thickness from 21 to 19
259mm-------------------------23 to 21
262mm-------------------------21 to 19

The rotors of some mb with thickness of 23mm and diameter of 259mm don't fit to civic ej9 because the stud pattern is 4x114.3 and our civics ej9 have 4x100.
The best choice is to upgrade the brakes to MGZS 160 with 4studs and 282mm rotors.
