yeah what rab means is can a so stamped "L9" box off some breed of d14 engine be used to repace a so stamped "S40" box which has shit the brick which was on a d16y7 block. In theory to me all that matters is if the bell housing's are the same and line up at the block, but we aint sure if the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and splines are identical dimensions accross the D series breed. Has anyone done the same sort of transmission swap or know if these components are the same accross the D series ?

There is no L9 gearboxes at D-series 96-00 models.
Please take a photo of gearbox and where is that stamp.

no problem will do that, could possibly be a box off a B series then as the so stamped L9 box came out of a MB6 chassis like mine, although the dismantler who has the gear box says it came off a 1.4 engine, which would make it D series, but he could be wrong. He has sold the engine so i cant find out for sure if the box came off a D or B series

Looking on the web I can't find this transmission at all. Only Daihatsu Copen I get a hit that it had L9 tranny... I really wonder if it's from Civic?

There is no such a gearbox "9L" at D-series.
Honda has 9A gearboxes for the D-series but not 9L.
Please post a photo of the gearbox and where it is the stamp.
Elsewhere it is misinformation and we don't want it in DU community.

I would really like to see the stamps/numbers etc. as well.

But did you perform the swap now and did it succeed if I understand right?
