The 96-98 EJ9 dizzy is a weird one, I know it exist in a 1.5 litre car in the middel-east and in an Aussie 1.6 litre Civic as well.
This 'special' dizzy lacks one sensor (CYP) and has different signals. Normally magnets/spools are used to measure pulses, but in the 'special' dizzy a LED light with light sensor is used instead, giving another type of signal.
The OBD1 ECU's need the magnet/spool type sensor I believe and need the CYP sensor I am sure about. So that is why 96-98 EJ9 owners like me are screwed and 99-00 owners can save money and effort.
