Honda MTF for sure! The capacity you need is going to cost you around 25-30euros.

is there not a cheaper place to buy it, i.e not from honda?

Ive head some rumours that the transmission fluid that rover sell is exactly the same thing, has anyone else heard this aswell?

It could be. Find out if it is the same fluid like the one on Rovers 416 sohc engines. They used to have d16 honda engines and i think the same gearbox.

MTF is in Portugal at 5.20eur per Liter plus some cents from the environemental tax. 2.2 L on the D14 gearbox... Thats 15eur max. for 40.000kms. Dont use motor oil of any kind. if you dont have LSD just use Honda genuine MTF. But i agree, if Rover use the same but cheaper, buy it...
Cheers

I thought LSD definetely needs MTF.
My B16B is said to have fresh MTF... I've been warned not to use any other oil in it?

But my D14 tranny has gotten 2 oil services in its life.

As you might guess: cheap 10W40 around 120.000 and a Shell 10W40 around 250.000.

As we all know my tranny is still running and doing its work on the drag strip  . Maybe I am just a lucky bastard... but for me it just works. Kinda hoping the tranny will fail one day so I have to get the D15B spec hehe. :P

I thought LSD's use only special oils like 75w90 or something...
This is a good example.

Only plate style LSD's need a special oil because of the friction.A helical LSD can use general gear oil.All honda's use a helical style.
Afaik the older transmissions ( S20 ,L3 ) need to have 10w40 motor oil ,because the newer synthetic gear oils will eat the seals.
I'm using Honda MTF III in my D14 tranny without any problems.
