This is the type of oil i have been using for some years now. I have always wanted to use a thin oil and see for my self how this would benefit engine function and mainly revving. The range of this oil is very extended. It starts from very low temperatures and keeps the range of the majority of oils out there.
Some people mistakenly think that 0-40 is thinner than 5-30 which is clearly false. This oil is extremely good for low temperatures, but it isn't just that. Its vital role is played during the first minutes of engine working as at this point it is better than other oils. Before that i have been using Motul 8100 10W40. I clearly saw difference in revving high with mobil 1.
Still i don't keep this oil for more than 6000km, or less if i enter track or perform spirited driving. After aprox. 5000km i have seen some oil consumption but it is minimal. From 100-300gr most.

@ Law, Mobil 1 0W40 is a bit pricey but not more expensive than motul 300V.
4lit cost 45e to me in Greece from a special provider which has great prices! Other retailers in Greece sell it for 55-70euros..
Its great performance means that a lot of additives exist in the oil. This means that you need to change it quite frequently as these ingredients will tend to loose their properties in time. Personally, i see that after 4000kms oil consumption begins, so i try to change it when i reach 6000km.

I would really like to see how much hps can be gained if using such a thin oil. Mayby when I change pistons I change oil TYPE one day...

The Mobil 10w/40 is not 100% synthetic oil.
It's better for me to use 5w/40 oil because is fully synthetic and protect the engine better at any condition and the oil consumption is same with 10w/40.
Besides you can keep 5w/40 for longer in the engine.

The Mobil 1 i am referring to is 0-40 and it is fully synthetic. Great oil but not for keeping it more than 5-6000km.

Yes also the 0w/40 is good option.

I think the 0-40 mobil 1 period has ended for me. I guess it just isn't worth the money (12.5 per liter and change every 6-7k).

I hope it won't be a downgrade. I am moving on to the motul excess 5-40 8euro/lt.
