Welcome Mark, did you build the mini-me yourself? (Did you already have an introduction topic? We can chat further in there).

Someone named "Ditfa" posted this on the OneCamOnly forum

hi all, i just buy d14z4 Pistons (from civic mb2 00' ) and they look like this:

http://imageshack.us/f/441/20111011181532332.jpg

i want to put them in my d16w3 (from edm mb civic) but they are little different from phxg, i try measure them and here are numbers:

Piston pin diameter: 19mm
Compressie height 28.8mm
Piston dish volume: XXX
Totall height: 48.75mm

Piston dish volume is probably like in phxg

original piston in d16w3 are p2p. Do You think is there any sense to change them? I want to get cr about 11:1

Seems like the D14Z4 from the 00' Civic MB uses different pistons then the D14Z series from the 99-00 Civic Hatch .

this is why i always came across different C/R volumes for d14a4 d14z4/d14a8 etc. Difference in pistons..weird though. I would expect honda to use the same pistons for economy.

Apparently Honda does a lot of research to the combustion chambers that they have so many different pistons for what is to me the same engine all over?

still this is contradictory to the sense of economy of scale   And i don't see any point in this to tell you truth.

Well, production numbers are high anyway, so overhead will not be too much. But my guess is its in the environmental stuff, tiny changes may cause big differences in the combustion regarding 'dirty' components.

you think some engines were cleaner due to these changes? It's a pity we don't have any specs of this kind for our civics.

'cleaner' ... its probably more a different compromise in exhaust fume mixture depending on regulations which change all the time and are often geographically different. But guessing a bit here.
