D14A3 75HP > 90HP

Post by rupert »

Hey guys. Complete noob here. I have an EJ9 D14A3 Civic and recently found out that this engine is almost identical to the D14A4 engine other than being restricted to 75hp by a gasket in the throttle body. My goal here is to gain access to the extra 15HP that my engine is capable of producing!

I've easily managed to locate this gasket but not sure what to do next. I've spent days online trying to find out how to get the extra 15HP out of my engine but I'm not having any luck. Do I simply remove the gasket? Or must I replace it with the gasket from a D14A4 engine? Or something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Rupert :)

Hey there,

you simply need to replace your metal gasket with a new gasket you can buy at your local Honda dealer. The part number of the gasket is: 16176-P2A-004

Hi Hellraiser, thanks for the reply. That cleared everything up, thanks for the part number also! :)

Simply change gasket and you will gain immediately 15hp

Hello
Got a quick question about this topic
I got a D14A3, with the plate removed
And currently with no compression on piston n. 2
Also while changing spark plugs I noticed how white they are, wondering, if it is running too lean thanks to the different ECU? (P3Y vs P3X)
Also noticed that injectors have different coding, but not too sure how different are they otherwise.
I was wondering, if the lean mixture could cause a burnt valve (a rather hot day on a highway).

Update: nevermind I'm dumb and messed up valve clearance

Hello
So I just wanted to make sure Ive understood this correctly:

Ive just removed the restrictor on my D14A3 and replaced it with the Honda 16176-P2A-004 gasket, so now my intake is "full size".
I also then suddenly got worried about "too much air" and running lean. Silly of me?

Can someone confirm one does not need to swap the ECU?

What is the difference between the P3Y and P3X ECUs?
