[discussion]D14 without vtec, max hp?

hi mans,
I've been thinking of one thing. the most economical lifting capacity of 75-90 horsepower engine. I came to the conclusion that it is enough to slightly change the motor to achieve good results.
and so look at what can be done for less money:
+swap intake - ok, we all do it
+swap Exhaust - not problem, we like strong sound (or dont swap it)
+swap camshaft from d16z6....
and....
+rewrite programm in SFI ECU for change fuelmap... problem but i think i could do it....

of course it is SFI (MPFI), and we havent VTEC. but i think 110-115-120 bhp. it's good result? how many cost this mod? i think it best MicroME swap for adding 20-30hp. we dont need p28 ecu, dizzy, head... new wire... IACV...

what u think about it?

Well... you don't need to swap the camshaft to do that. We have had several cars way over 120 bhp with D14 cam and no ECU work (Baz and Saxophonias). Though you need to be lucky. On the same dyno on the same day as Baz was I had another D14 with similar setup barely reaching 105 bhp while Baz if I remember correctly almost immediately hit 120 bhp. Only IM, header and exhaust work by that time.

I would stick to original cam when you not tune the ECU...

I had with an d14z2, d16z6 im, d15z6 tb, 240cc injectors, srs exhaust.
P06 ecu with ectune 120,5 pk.
In a few months we go again to verhoeven, the dyno.
I have now added vtec with a y8 head, skunk2 im, b16b tb. And in a few weeks blox level 2 camshaft, with kms valve springs and retainers.
I`ll hope around 135 pk, or higher.

So are we saying with I/H/E and a good tune we can see 120hp if we are lucky? I expect that we could only really improve on that with some great porting without replacing any components. I cant really see anything else that could be done without doing anything major or going VTEC.

However personally I would be happy with 120hp for now :P

it just theory.. i would modify our stock SFI ECU. for edit with dynostand our fuels card.

ps. Yesterday I learned that our processors that are on the ECU, installed in old printers =)

Hehehehe, seems you're digging deep into out ECU Ilya! Curious what you can find out for us... perhaps getting fuel maps to be reworked in stock D14 ECU could be very nice for some of us.

Yes, it sounds good story.
We will waiting with curiosity to see your results :)

Between can you swap on d14 head the camshaft from d16z6, as said Ilya?

Nope can't put a vtec cam in a non vtec head...
Most people get +/- 120hp with i/H/E and a tune on a d14a4/a3.
I got 119 back then .

hmm... That makes sense to do chip tuning SFI not? we have good formula I\H\E and have 120bhp. it's ok? no more else?

Practically no. Theoretically... as long as you put in the rocker arms as well! You can than either fix to non-VTEC or VTEC with some DIY. Though I do not know if a fixed in VTEC cam does pass MOT.
