What D16Z6 parts can I salvage? (for swapping IM to D14)

Post by IMGREENMAN »

Hi guys, so i want to start getting to work on this upgrade asap,
i have an eg with a d16z6. what can i salvage from it to max my hp on my d14 and to the cleanest install.

is there any point in changing the transmission and if so is there much gain?
i understand i can use

Intake Manifold
Throttle Body
Head

but what else could i use in the install from the z6?

You can salvage almost every part from d16z6 engine bay as back-up part or tuning part, from single bolt to the harness connectors.
Also you can use the throttle cable, IM stay. And the little IM's pipes to have the swapping more OEM look. Even you can use the air box too if you want.

Thanks Betek, but im none the wiser in what i can use to get most potential out of what i have, im surely not going to change down to every single bolt thats under the z6 hood cuz thats a whole upgrade there.

im kinda looking for just the parts i need to salvage for this upgrade only, when i say salvage im actually not getting rid of the z6 it will be worked on again in the furture.

you could use the intake manifold along with air filter, the header which is way better than stock d14 and the gearbox definetely

What about ECU guys?

You might be able to use the distributor and quite a lot of the harness+fuel rail/injectors for converting to OBD1, but you should wait for someone to confirm this.

Tranny is good idea and bad idea. Good because ratios should be little closer, at least final is shorter. Bad since S20 tranny can be a little weaker and heavier compared to S40. Honda redesigned a few parts from S20 to S40 regarding this.

ECU is definitively smart to keep.

Exhaust manifold to. Downpipe is identical to B16A2 downpipe! If you still have stock D14 exhaust manifold, going D16Z6 is a good upgrade. I got 114 bhp on an almost stock D14A4 with only D16Z6 IM and header and little ECU tuning.

ok so if i was to swap the complete head would it be better for me to swap ecu from the z6 with my d14a4 one?

parts i will have installed

d16z6 vtec head
d16z6 intake manifold
d16z6 fuel rail
d16z6 240cc injectors
d16z6 dizzy
d16z6 tranny - might not use if better is recommended
d14a4 bottom end

i do not have the exhaust manifold because it is on my brothers 97 coupe

I think stock P28 ECU can get you really decent power even without chipping. Only extra you'll need is an adjustable cam gear. So you can retard cam timing a little. Doing so can make your little D14 straight away produce equal power of D16Z6 if not more. Even with stock ECU. Normally stock D16ECU might be considered rich, but in my experienced a good performing D14 VTEC needs even more fuel to put out more power  .

Yes, but I noticed that without setting a very bad riding at low revs. I press the pedal and the engine bogged down with gasoline. too much gasoline to 1.4.

maybe it's because of the automatic transmission ... but probably not the problem. I have been studying different firmware, and concluded that the most optimum flash it from the D15 125 bhp

d16z6 tranny, tou dont like s40??? why
d16z6 240cc injectors, i think you could stay with 1.4 jets for start, your ecu take MORE fuel. but your 1.4 balanced it.
