Ej9 max speed

Hi All,
yesterday i had the chance to test the civic on a perfectly straight empty road and i pushed it on 4th gear to max speed. The pull wasn't very bad up untill 160 170, but when it reached 180 it just stoped pulling.
I made a second run and had the same result...180 km\h (6200 rpm) and the needle freezes.
I was a bit dissapointed cause previously i hit 200 mark on a small downhill and hoped i can do better after the upgrade (d16 manifolds).
I can't say what could be the reason, one thing is for shure - there is not enough NM at 6200 rpm.

Maybe you guys can share your experiences (off the record  ) and opinions.

P.S. Pls drive safely and protect others! ;)

The maximum speed of ej9s as I know is 177 km/h at straight line .
So I think you reached this limit.

here is a related discuss about final speed but with stock ecu as variable.

I haven't gained any top speed at all after the IM and header swap, and that is why i have wanted to ask if it is normal...Not that the difference should be big but kind of expected more than stock speed.
Anyway there is a difference from car to car so not a big deal.

The car feels pretty solid at that speed, no problems overall.
Maybe an aero kit could help further -flat bottoming, diffuser etc.
And that loong 5th gear just cries for a turbocharger, dont you think
Cheers!

Does your car on stock height?
If yes this final speed is logical.

With lowering the car, for example 3cm, there will be aerodynamic gain so the final speed will increase little bit! ;)

My top speed on the dial was around 190-200 in the pre-VTEC time for me.

With original 75 bhp setup it was 170 btw. Bone stock.

But since I have the D14A3 I do believe I have the somewhat better final gear, the 4.2... something, 4.25?

I think there is a misunderstanding about d14a3's final drive and rest of ej9s.
The final gear's part number (41233-PL3-J00) is the same for all ej9s 1996-2000.
All the ej9s in my opinion (including d14a3) have the same final drive of 4,058

Once i hit 200+ in 4rth (with the old a4 gearbox). With the a8 gearbox i rev to the limiter in 4rth (180) when racing let's say, and that's it. First of all I feel sorry for the motor and then excessive wear.

Yes the car is with stock suspension and tire size (185/60/14).
There was a thread in the local honda forum about the max speed of stock ej9 and the overall opinion was for about 170 to 200 km/h. I guess it depends on the road conditions and drivers honesty:)

[showoff mode]

Last week I hitted 225km/h at the gauge and I felt there was more left (I had to brake because a car was coming to the left haha).
Turbo setup and was driving at 195/50/15. Fifth gear is from a D15 / D13 gearbox (ratio 0.75)

183km/u on the tomtom/gps in my previous ej9 sedan.
wouldn't go any faster.

d14a4 with intake swap, full exhaust.
195-50-15 tyres
2 people in the car and 4 wheels we picked up in Germany.
